Here you can find the outputs, final reports, and key results of the Trendline project (2022–2025). The Trendline project was the largest collective effort ever undertaken in Europe for road safety KPI data collection.
Trendline | Key findings
- Speeding: The percentage of passenger cars traveling within speed limits on motorways varied significantly across Member States (from 30% to over 90%). On urban roads, compliance rates were generally lower (ranging from 23% to 76%).
- Safety Belt & CRS: Motorway seat belt use among drivers reached high levels (up to 99.6% in the best-performing countries), but rear-seat passenger compliance remained critically low in several countries (below 30% in some cases). Child Restraint System (CRS) correct usage varied widely, pointing to a strong need for targeted policy focus.
- Helmet Use: Bicycle helmet compliance showed the highest national variation, ranging from 5% (where helmet wearing is not standard practice) up to over 70% in top-performing nations.
